During a massage:
This is your time and you are the one receiving. Communication is essential!
If any technique performed is uncomfortable to you, for any reason, let Maggie know immediately. Always feel free to let her know if she is working too
deeply. When receiving deep tissue work, please be aware that, at times, it can be a very intense experience. However, you should be able to breathe
through the work being performed; if you are holding your breath or resisting the work, Maggie is working too deep. While you receive some techniques
of massage therapy, you may experience or notice sensations such as tingling, waves of energy or traveling dull aches. This is part of the healing process
and educates us as to what is going on with our bodies. This is different from a sharp pain, which is not the intention of any form of massage therapy.
Each massage therapy session is time that we have set aside for you. Please speak up if you are too hot or too cold, need a drink or need to get up, or
if you would like the music changed. If you wish to talk or ask questions during your session, please feel free to do so. If you prefer silence, Maggie
will accommodate you. Please be aware that during certain types of massage therapy some level of communication is required to provide you with the desired
outcome. Excessive talking may take away from fully experiencing the benefits of your massage as the body always tenses while speaking.
Now relax, close your eyes, breathe deeply and let go to the experience.
Your job during the session is to breathe, relax and to be nurtured.
Breathe: Breathe slowly and deeply throughout the session. Breathing will help to reduce
tension and it will assist in the flow of blood and oxygen to restricted muscle tissue. During the massage
there are a few things to choose from as far as your attention goes; the music, Maggie's hands, the sensations
on your skin and muscles, etc. At any given time if you are not sure where to place your attention –your breathing
is always a good choice. That doesn’t mean you’ll be “trying” to breathe in any particular way. Just notice how you
are breathing, pay attention to it every now and again.
Relax: Your part is about relaxing while your muscles benefit from years of experience,
Maggie's table is very comfortable, the aromatherapy oils are designed to help you further relax and the
music will help to carry you away. Everyone has different comfort levels with firmness of touch on various
areas of their body. The key is communication - verbal or otherwise. Try to feel the gravity points on the body as
it lays on the table. Sink into those spots, you are secure on the table. There is no need to engage your muscles, they can stop working and release.
Be Nurtured: This is your massage, time you've set aside for some well deserved nurturing.
A time to receive! We spend so much time in our lives giving, giving, and giving!
You deserve to receive. Open up to it. Suspend all concerns for 60-90 minutes and relax
under Maggie's skilled hands.
After a massage: During massage you are lying prone for an hour or longer.
This may cause dizziness upon sitting up. Therefore when getting up after massage, move slowly.
Massage therapy promotes a release of toxins from the body tissues. You may want to flush those toxins from the body.
It is common when receiving therapeutic massage to be sore the next day, like you've had a great exercise workout.
Occasionally you may be sore for two days while the body re-adjusts itself in wellness.
If, for any reason, you are too sore or it goes on for more than two days please call Maggie and she
will see you that day to work on alleviating the pain.
It is recommended to schedule appointments in advance and plan on getting a massage at
least one time per month for therapeutic benefits. Don’t wait until you go on vacation –
use massage as a mini-vacation or stress-break during your normal routine.
